Case Study: The 6-figures myth

If you've been on the internet streets as long as I have, you probably heard about the benchmarks of success: a few years ago was the elusive "six figure business" and now is the "seven figure business".

I met Elona* in a facebook group and we quickly became friends. At the time, Elona had been in business for almost a decade - she had, for all means, a very successful business. But she didn't felt successful because, and I quote "What is the point in having a business for this long and still not be making six figures. All those people with less experience are making it - why not me?"

Well, this is when we started to work together. The first thing I did was go over her numbers and her pricing structure. I needed to understand her offers, how she came up with prices, etc. It ended up that she was creating custom offers for every single prospect. This what not very sustainable for her as she was spending more time creating proposals than working with her clients.

Secondly, I wanted to understand WHY she wanted to make 6-figures: what did that mean to her. How would that change her life.

It ended up that she wanted that because she felt she needed. There was no burning desire for it, other than "people will not think I'm successful if I'm not making six figures".

One of the things that we talked was the understanding that a 6-figure business can mean so many things: $100,000+ in revenue, $100,000 in profit, etc. A $100,000 business doesn't mean that the owner is taking that money home. And that, perhaps, the focus should be on take-home money and not revenue - if we can focus on profitability, all the pieces start to make sense.

The work with Elona was DEEP mindset work. You see, anything we want for external pressure or external validation is not, necessarily, what we desire. And you will not have the motivation, the will to bring it to reality - simply because it is not important to you.

With Elona, I wanted to have a deep understanding of what a successful LIFE would look like to her. Her business is part of her life, but it is not her life.

The interesting thing was: Elona was feeling super successful in her life - except for her business. We needed to dig a little deeper there.

It ended up that Elona was frustrated that she was not attracting her dream clients. She had a lot of prospects coming in, a good conversion rate - but the work she was doing didn't light her soul. She thought that if she was making six figures, that would change. It would not.

WIth Elona, she needed permission to evolve: to allow her business to move into a different direction, to start doing the work that she loved.

While we were working together, we focused on her Next Level Self: the person that had the business doing the work she wants to do. Funny enough, the thing that was NOT on her list was how much money she was making.

We developed her Next Level Self Blueprint, which focused on the next 12-months. We created a few meditations for her to listen when she was working or doing chores - as this would fit her lifestyle more than a regular meditation or hypnosis - and we set up the to-do list that she needed to accomplish to make it happen.

The first step of the transition was difficult: she needed to say no to projects that would bring in money, but were outside of her new scope. She needed to change her message, to tell people this new era of her business.

The first 6-months were a trial: making uncomfortable decisions, trying new things, figuring out exactly where she was going. The main thing for Elona was understanding that she didn't need to be clear to shift: shifting her business was what will bring her clarity. In the past, she noticed a pattern of inaction until "everything made sense". Now, her Next Level Self didn't wait until things were perfect: she just did what needed to be done.

Elona notice a shift in the prospects and conversations she was having. She also noticed that when she told previous clients the direction she was going in business, they immediately jump in to hire her! She created packages with add on options, with that, the time she spend on proposals decreased in 90%, and the amount of discovery calls she needed to book a new client decreased in 50%. She now had more time to spend with her family (definition of success), and to focus on the work that really light up her soul!

Funny enough, by the end of the 12-months together, Elona went from $80,000 in revenue to $120,000 ;)
