Lucky Girl Syndrome: what is it, and does it matter?

February 09, 20245 min read

If you’ve been on TikTok, you've heard a thing or two about the “Lucky Girl Syndrome” and all the fantastic things that people have manifested. You also have seen a few - very funny - videos of people showing that when they tried it, everything went to sh*t.

As a mindset coach - I do have thoughts about information shared in under 60 seconds - and I can see the good and the bad.

In this post, I’ll explain to you what is the Lucky Girl Syndrome, why it works, and what to do when it does not work.

What is the Lucky Girl Syndrome

We can tie the Lucky Girl Syndrome with the Law Of Attraction. You probably heard of the Law of Attraction from the movie “The Secret” [and you can read more about it and the other Universal Laws here]

The premise is: like attracts like. So, if you believe yourself to be lucky, you’ll attract luck. If you believe yourself to be wealthy, you will attract wealth. So on and so forth.

The Law of Attraction works the other way too: if you believe yourself to be unlucky - you’ll attract more lack of luck.

Why the Lucky Girl Syndrome Works

It works because our thoughts shape our reality.

You know when people say that 2 people might experience the same event, but their outtakes will be different? That is it.

We filter life through the lenses of our past experiences, our model of reality, and our self-concept. When you believe yourself to be lucky, you’ll see all events as lucky omens. Let me give you an example:

You are applying for several jobs; a few interviews went super well. And you, actually, were very excited to receive an offer from a top company.

A few days later, they rescinded the offer. [yes, this happens] You can say that some people would be mad, angry, upset. They might think that they said something wrong, and go down that downward spiral.

If you have that Lucky Girl Syndrome, you’ll see that as a sign: a sign that the offer was not the best for you, and you’ll get a better offer for the best position in the future. In this case, you’ll not think twice about slaying all the other interviews you have lined up.

The first person might get a little insecure during the following interviews or even hold back from applying for a position because they feel they are not good enough.

Now, this is an example that most people can relate to in one way or another. Which person are you?

You see, the experience was the same, just your outlook is different - and your outlook is what dictates how you act and react in the world.

The Lucky Girl Syndrome will not necessarily change the events; they just allow you to see the silver lining and trust that the Universe always has your back. The Lucky Girl Syndrome works because it’s about how your inner world interacts with and reacts to the world around you.

If you want to give the Lucky Girl Syndrome a try, you can start with positive suggestions [or affirmations] that state a lucky outcome - such as “I am lucky,” “I am abundant,” “The Universe always has my back” “Life happens for me” “Everything happens for my highest good” -, hypnosis, meditation and visualization can be powerful tools to get started.

What to do when the LSG is not working

If you tried looking at yourself in the mirror and saying, “I am lucky,” just to have the toothpaste fall off the toothbrush on your brand-new shirt, that was just the beginning of all the sh*t that happened that day - which might have included peeing in yourself? Well, you are not alone.

The reason why it didn’t work for you is simple: you don’t really believe it. When we talk about the Law of Attraction, your words are part of the equation, but not all of it. The main component is your energetic imprint.

Your energetic imprint is like the radio signals you send out to the universe. If you are tuned to PoorFM saying, “I am abundant,” you’ll still be tuning into PoorFM.

To be effective in becoming the person who IS lucky, you need to go deeper than “faking until you make it.” What I’m going to share next is simple, but it doesn’t mean it’s easy.

  1. Define what is that you want luck for a new job, a new relationship, wealth, health, etc.

  2. Do activities daily that connect you with the energy of what you desire. Let’s say you want a new work opportunity - perhaps do things that make you feel confident. If you want more wealth, to activities that make you feel wealthy. When in doubt, activities that make you feel joyful and loved are a good thing to do.

  3. While doing those activities, repeat your affirmation. Now you’re moving away from LoserFM and connecting with AbundantFM

This is the first step to start changing your energetic imprint. After doing this for a week, you’ll start noticing changes. If you don’t, I recommend you check for 3 things:

  1. Do you really want what you say you want?

  2. What do you gain from not changing?

  3. What do you loose if you change?

Conclusion

Lucky Girl Syndrome is real, and it works. But you can expect to start noticing patterns and beliefs that need to be evolved or healed.

Mindset work is essential to start this journey in a systematic and sustainable way.
