How to Use Breathwork to Break Money Plateaus

Here’s the truth: Breath is the bridge between your nervous system and your capacity to receive. And most entrepreneurs I know are chronically dysregulated, running their business from a place of survival rather than expansion.

The Breath-Money Connection That Changes Everything

Let me breath this down in the simplest way possible. When you’re stressed out about money (which, let’s be honest, is probably more often than not), your nervous system goes into protection mode. Your breathing becomes shallow, rapid, and trapped in your chest. In this state, you quite literally cannot access the part of your brain that things big, takes aligned risks, or confidently communicates the value of your offers.

The science is fascinating: when we’re in survival mode, our nervous system prioritizes immediate safety over long-term growth. This means that chronic stress breathing keeps you stuck in small, safe decisions that maintain your current income level rather than expanding it.

Here’s what is really happening: Your body doesn’t distinguish between a real threat (like, a saber-tooth tiger), and a difficult pricing conversation, or even the idea of evolving your offers. Both trigger the same fight-or-flight response that keeps you playing small. And even you’re there for too long, you go to the freeze/fawn response, that feeling of numbness, and paralysis. When your nervous system perceives that you’re in danger, it literally cannon compute your wealthy ceo vision as a safe identity to embody.

Scarcity vs. Expansion: How Your Breath Reveals Everything

Inside Wealth Frequencies, the first week is quite literally getting intimate and familiar with your breath. It’s funny how we breath about 20,000 times per day, but we still are not masters at it.

So, you can start paying attention to how your breath when you’re feeling amazing and when you’re having difficult conversations or making difficult or uncomfortable decisions. I guarantee you’ll feel the difference, and you’ll learn everything you need to know about why you’re feeling stuck.

Scarcity Breathing Looks Like

  • Shallow, chest-only breathing (you might even be able to feel your shoulders going up and down with your breath)
  • Rapid or held breath during difficult conversations
  • Feeling like you can’t get enough air (feeling a bit lightheaded, and/or disconnected from your body)
  • Breathing that stops completely when you hit send on a proposal

Expansion Breathing Feels Like:

  • Deep, belly-connected breaths
  • Slow, rhythmic patters that feel sustainable
  • Breath that continues flowing even during challenging conversations
  • Feeling grounded and present in your body

The difference isn’t just physical; it’s neurological. Scarcity breathing keeps you in your reactive brain, while expansion breathing activates your prefrontal cortex where all your CEO-level thinking happens.

When you’re breathing from scarcity, you make decisions form fear. When you’re breathing from expansion, you make decisions from power. It’s really that simple.

Two Breathwork Tools You Can Use Today

Let me give you two practical tools that will start shifting your nervous system’s relationship with money immediately.

Tool 1: The Down-Regulation Reset (for Money Anxiety)

The 4-7-8 Breath

This is your go-to tool when you feel that familiar money anxiety creeping in.

  • Inhale deeply through your nose for 4 counts
  • Hold your breath for 7 counts
  • Exhale through your mouth for 8 counts
  • Repeat 4-6 times

When to use this: Before pricing conversations, sending proposals, launching anything, or making financial decisions. Basically, anytime your nervous system starts spiraling.

What is does: This pattern activates your parasympathetic nervous system (that “rest-and-digest” mode) moving you out of fight-or-flight and into a state where you can actually think clearly about your decisions.

Tool 2: The Expansion Activator (for Wealth Building)

Rhythmic Power Breathing

This technique builds your nervous system’s capacity to hold bigger possibilities

  • Sit tall and place one hand in your chest, one on your belly
  • Take ~30 rapid, powerful breaths through your nose (like you’re pumping air into your belly)
  • After ~30 breaths, take one deep inhale and hold for 10-15 seconds
  • Exhale slowly and notice the sensation in your body

When to use this: Before visioning sessions, goal setting, or anytime you need to access your most expansive thinking.

What it does: This energizing pattern increases oxygen to your brain abdominal builds your capacity to hold bigger visions without your nervous system shutting down.

Your Vagus Nerve: The Highway to Wealth Activation

Now, let’s talk about why this works. Meet your Vagus Nerve. The longest nerve in your body and essentially your internal safety detector. Think of it as the highway between your brain and your body, constantly sending signals about whether you’re safe or not.

When your Vagus Nerve is regulated (which it can be activated through proper breathing), it sends “safety” signals to your brain. In this state, you can access creativity, confidence, and expansive thinking. You can hold bigger visions, take aligned risks, and communicate your offers values without your nervous system freaking out.

When your Vagus Nerve is dysregulated (which happens with chronic stress and chest breathing), it sends “danger” signals. In this state, your brain can only focus on immediate survival, which shows up as playing small, undercharging, and staying stuck in the familiar (but limiting) patterns.

Here’s the wealth connection: A regulated nervous system can hold the identity of “Wealthy CEO” as safe and inevitable. A dysregulated nervous system will “sabotage” any attempts to expand beyond your current reality because, well, it doesn’t know if that expansion is safe or not.

This is why you can know all the business strategies in the world, but if your nervous system isn’t wired for wealth, you’ll keep hitting the same plateau.
